What sets Borntostandout apart from other niche houses?
Borntostandout describes itself as a Korean fragrance house challenging conventions and redefining beauty. It was founded in 2022 by Jun Lim, and its stated message is self-expression through fragrance.
Three things on the house's own account set it apart from most niche peers.
The first is the bottle. The house says its bottles reinterpret Joseon-era white porcelain, modelled on traditional Korean white porcelain drink bottles and reshaped with modern, rebellious silhouettes. White is its core colour, which it ties to Korean heritage, splashed with red as the colour of rebellion.
The second is how the extraits are made. The house ages its Extrait Extrême line for three months in Onggi, traditional Korean pottery, at what it calls an extrême fragrance concentration, and says each one is overdosed with natural oud. The Eau Intimité collection goes the other way: the house describes each of those fragrances as built to live like a second skin.
The third is what goes into the bottle. The house says its fragrances combine natural absolutes, exotic spices and safe synthetics, with synthetics used in place of animal-derived materials, plant materials with sustainability concerns and essential oils with toxic allergens.
